The city of Barcelona has accompanied the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya since the first edition of the race in 1911. Since then, the capital of Catalonia has been present in each and every one of the 103 editions of this home cycling race. The 2025 edition will be the 71st in which the race starts and/or finishes in Barcelona, a year after having added a name of the caliber of Tadej Pogacar to the list of stars who have won stages of the Volta in the city, which in the last decade included cyclists of the stature of Remco Evenepoel (2023), Alejandro Valverde (2015 and 2017), and Thomas De Gendt (2013 and 2021). The Montjuïc circuit – which has hosted two World Cycling Championships – has always been the main protagonist, with a special connection in the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and since 2013, it has become the iconic closing stage of the race.
