Barcelona and the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya have gone hand in hand since the first edition of the race, in 1911, starting from the Catalan capital. Since then, the capital of Catalonia has been present in each and every one of the 102 editions of the home cycling event, and this 2024 will be the 70th edition in which the race starts and/or finishes in Barcelona. The Montjuic circuit - which has hosted two cycling World Championships - has always been the main protagonist, with special links in the 40s, 50s and 60s, and since 2013 it has been consolidated as the iconic closing stage of the race. Reigning world champion Remco Evenepoel (2023), Thomas De Gendt (2013 and 2021), Davide Formolo (2019), Simon Yates (2018), Alejandro Valverde (2015 and 2017), Andrea Bagioli (2022), Alexey Tsatevich (2016) and Lieuwe Westra (2014) have all won this stage since then.
