Volta a Catalunya 104 - Etapa 6 / Stage 6 - Last km

(Berga, 29-03-2025) - The American Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek) has been the winner of the 6th stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which has not been able to dispute its third finish at altitude due to the modification of its penultimate day, initially planned with a finish in Queralt and finally disputed with start and finish in the city of Berga. A short stage that has not caused changes in the general classification before the final challenge in Barcelona, where Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) will defend his lead with only one second ahead of Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe).

The 104th edition of the Volta a Catalunya had planned a decisive day in the Berguedà mountains on Saturday 29 March, which was expected to be decisive. However, the stage was affected by extreme weather conditions with the activation of the VENTCAT alert that forced to cut the route, finally disputed without the passage through the passes of Coll de la Batallola, Coll de Pradell, Collada de Sant Isidre and Queralt. The cyclists finally rode a 73-kilometre circuit starting and finishing in the city of Berga, with two thirds of the route being neutralized.

Finally, the official start was given to dispute a stage win without consequences in the general classification or bonuses, which has been resolved in an explosive sprint in the Street Rasa del Canyet despite the push of cyclists like Carlos Verona (Lidl-Trek), Rémy Rochas (Groupama-FDJ), Frank van den Broek (Team Picnic-PostNL) and Diego Uriarte (Team Kern Pharma), who have sought the breakaway. Standing out in the final kilometre, American Quinn Simmons (Lidl-Trek) took the stage win, which he was able to celebrate as the threat of Pavel Bittler (Team Picnic-PostNL) and Anders Folgader (Team Jayco-AlUla) closed in on him first.

With no change in the general classification, Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) and Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) will face the final day of competition with just one second separating them, while Balearic rider Enric Mas (Movistar Team) is third overall at 21 seconds back.

Everything is open for the conclusion of the race in its final stage in Barcelona, which this Sunday, March 30, will put its final point with a stage of 88.2 kilometres starting and finishing in Barcelona, including the traditional six passes through the Alt del Castell de Montjuïc (2nd category) that will decide the overall classification of this 104th Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
