La Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will have an unprecedented venue on the route of its 104th edition. The City Council of Sant Vicenç de Castellet has reached an agreement with the organization of the Catalan race so that the municipality, the largest in the South Bages in number of inhabitants, will be the protagonist of one of the starts of the Volta 2025 to be held between March 24 and 30.
With a population of over 10,000 inhabitants and a strategic geographical position between the capital of Bages and the Catalan capital, the municipality of Sant Vicenç de Castellet meets all the requirements to host all the logistical infrastructure that represents the caravan of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. The town can boast of being surrounded by two natural parks ideal for cycling: Sant Llorenç del Munt and L'Obac and the Natural Park of the mountain of Montserrat. It is also located at the confluence of two rivers, the Cardener and the Llobregat and represents the most populated municipality of the so-called Bages Sud sub-region.
Thus, Sant Vicenç de Castellet will be able to enjoy the best world cycling with the landing of the race, positioning the municipality as one of the great protagonists of the next edition of the race, which this 2024 has seen how the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar got the victory in a season for history, since in addition to the Volta a Catalunya he has won the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and has recently been proclaimed world champion.
Thanks to the media dimensions that the Catalan UCI World Tour race generates worldwide, we will be able to discover the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality. One of them, the monumental complex of the Castellet, dating from the thirteenth century located in the highest part of a hill, of which fragments of the defensive wall are preserved.
Dani Mauriz, Mayor of Sant Vicenç de Castellet says that ‘hosting the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in the municipality is not only an opportunity to show Sant Vicenç to the world, but also an incentive for all the people of Sant Vicenç to participate and enjoy sport. With this event we want to organize events and activities aimed at all audiences so that new generations can enjoy sport as part of a healthy lifestyle’.
For his part, Rubén Peris, General Director of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya has shown the satisfaction that represents for a dean race as the Volta, to incorporate unpublished venues in its route; “Next March we will reach the 104th edition of a historic race as the Volta. Incorporating municipalities that have never hosted the start or finish of the race is always a reason for joy. Cycling has a long tradition in our country, and the support of the municipalities that host the Volta are the best example. In addition, leaving Sant Vicenç de Castellet will allow us to have many alternatives to make a magnificent stage at a sporting level”.
The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya is finalizing the route of the next edition of the race, which will once again generate worldwide media interest. A race that year after year tries to discover new landscapes and routes, which generate the interest of both the UCI World Tour teams and the bulk of fans who do not want to miss the passage of the best cycling in the world by our house.
In the last edition of 2024, the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) won ahead of the Basque Mikel Landa (Soudal - Quick-step) and the Colombian Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), in an edition in which Pogacar celebrated up to four stage wins. In this way, the Slovenian added his name to the list of winners of the Volta, where riders such as Mariano Cañardo, Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Felice Gimondi, Miguel Indurain, Joaquín Rodríguez, Alejandro Valverde or Primoz Roglic, among many others, have won throughout history.
