The Volta a Catalunya adds Virtual Racing to the race in 2023 with indoor cycling app FulGaz

Indoor cycling app FulGaz has become a partner of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya for its 102nd edition, which will be held between 20 - 26 March 2023. Through the industry leading cycling app, fans will be able experience parts of the historic Catalan UCI World Tour cycling race from their homes with an unprecedented level of realism.

The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, the third oldest stage race on the UCI World Tour calendar after the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, will hold its 102nd edition on Catalan roads in 2023. This year, fans from all over the world will be able to ride key sections of Volta stages emulating the professional riders.
Part of a three year partnership, FulGaz enables cycling fans all over the world to enjoy several spectacular stages of the race through the powerful indoor cycling app with an unprecedented level of realism.
Users will be able to climb the slopes of Vallter, La Molina, Lo Port, Boí Taüll or to ride on the roads of the Costa Daurada or Terres de l'Ebre, racing up the the same routes as the professional peloton.
"We aim to be the closest thing to travelling to real locations around the world. When you use FulGaz, the experience should be all about being immersed in the location in real life, with the app getting in the way as little as possible. All you need to do is get on your bike and enjoy the ride," said Mike Clucas, founder of FulGaz.
He added, “I raced on Catalan roads as a young rider and it’s exciting to be able to bring them to life on the app”.
Through FulGaz, riders will be able to test themselves on seven stages in an attempt to take the General Classification. There are three stages featuring sections from the 2023 edition with four fan favourites from previous editions of the Volta.
Specifically, users will be able to enjoy the routes of the third stage of the upcoming Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, with a mountain top finish in La Molina, the fifth, an important novelty in Terres de l'Ebre with an explosive finale in Lo Port, and the seventh, the final finishing circuit of Montjuïc, in the city of Barcelona.
In addition, the two key sections from the 2022 edition will also be used as part of the virtual tour, the memorable battle on the Costa Daurada that ended up deciding the race, and the mountain finish in Boí Taüll.
There will be two others stages from previous editions, the leg-breaking stage from the 2021 edition which finished in Manresa, crossing the well-known magical mountain of Montserrat, and the finale from the 2019 stage finished in the ski resort of Vallter.
