The Volta presents an exceptional route to commemorate its 100th edition

The facilities of the INEFC Barcelona have been the scene of the presentation of the 100th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will be held from March 23 to 29, 2020. The act has allowed detailing the news that have been prepared for such a special edition, as well as the characteristics of each of the seven stages.
The president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Rubèn Peris, has open the event thanking the work of so many people at the service of the Volta have made possible to be at the doors of the centenary of editions, a fact that only the Tour de France and the Giro of Italy have achieved.
Joaquim Rodríguez - winner of the Volta on two occasions - and Àngel Edo have been the former riders in charge of analyzing the route, which stands out for its variety. In this sense, there are half-mountain stages conducive to getaways; an individual time trial; two great high arrivals and others propitious to see exciting sprints. All this to ensure the traditional demand and the show that characterizes the Volta.
Another novelty to commemorate the 100th edition of the Volta will be the dispute of a special sprint at km 100 of each stage - except for the time trial - as a tribute to six cyclists who have left a deep imprint at different times of the race : Sebastià Masdeu, Mariano Cañardo, Miquel Poblet, Joaquín Galera, Miguel Indurain and Alejandro Valverde.
The race will start again in Calella again and the first stage will be already a half-mountain test. The second stage will present one of the main novelties of the 100th edition: An individual time trial of 21.1 kilometers along the roads of the Pla de l'Estany, with departure and arrival in Banyoles. In this way, the Volta recovers a discipline that the race had not held since 2007.
Later the high mountain will arrive with two great arrivals. First in Vallter 2000, coinciding with the third stage, and the next day in Port Ainé on a particularly demanding day that also includes the ports de Tosses and that de Cantó. The route of this 100th edition, includes other icònic places such as the mountain of Montserrat. The Canal Olímpic de Catalunya opens as a stage depart, and another prestigious sports venue as the circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will also see the pass of the bunch, disputing an intermediate sprint on its straight. It will be during the sixth stage, between Tarragona and Mataró, just before Barcelona, and more specifically the mountain of Montjuïc, will be again the traditional ending stage of the Volta.
In this final day, the runners must complete six laps in Montjuïc, but this year the circuit is recovered by the historic ascent reaches the castle and increases the level of demand. The emotion will be assured from beginning to end of the Volta.
The Volta is included in the UCI World Tour calendar and every year allows the best international cyclists to ride on the Catalan roads, attracted by the prestige of the race and its attractive route. Some riders like the former world champion Alejandro Valverde, Nairo Quintana, Warren Barguil, Marc Soler or the current winner of the race, the Colombian Miguel Ángel López, have already confirmed their participation in the 100th edition of the Volta.
